Astaro didn't quarantine a single valid e-mail message or newsletter, nor did it mark any valid mail as suspected spam. However, it did let 28 percent of the undeniable spam into my Inbox.
The best spam filters block no valid mail (like Astaro) but also filter out most spam. And loading the whole suite at startup can slow rebooting. Using the Astaro gateway for protection means these problems just don't happen. It never contends with your computer for resources, because it has its own completely separate computer with its own CPU and RAM. It doesn't run any processes on your local computer, and it doesn't attempt to scan local files.
I did measure Astaro's effect on browsing speed using a test that measures the time required to fully load 100 websites of various types. Averaging the results of many test runs before and after installing the Astaro gateway, I determined it had no measurable effect on browsing speed.
