Ambe Codec Software Free

An AMBE open source compatible codec? The LAME encoder was developed as free software application used to encode.
Should I choose to use a software method that violates patents, I consider the piper already paid as I own a scanner capable of IMBE decoding, and various radios for D-Star and DMR. Presently there are pipe dreams that a drop-in replacement Codec2 board will be developed for the current D-STAR radios. If we don't see Codec2 implemented in radio available for purchase in the next couple years then I think it is time to consider this.
Sure there are legal risks, but consider what I wrote above about two other examples. A patent give an inventor a chance to recoup the investments he made during the development of his invention. They typically use the patent to monopolize the market for that purpose. Anything with the legal world is about money. I hardly see any patent holder perusing legal action against non-profit hobbyists.
If radio manufactures stop using the AMBE chip and start using a software solution that doesn't return the royalties to DVSI, then yes this would a good reason to perusing legal action. It would be interesting to research some of the other once patented things that apply to radio. Like Motorola's selective calling technology called Private Line or PL. Also worth reading. was actually an attempt by the now defunct U.S. Retailer Circuit City Actually, its just an unfortunate coincidence that they used the same name.
They have nothing to do with each other in reality. Anonymous said. I wish we had an open vocoder to play with. Hi, but is there a way to do a similar job without copying the core of the original AMBE DSP? I mean, if i encode a 'bad' signal similar to what could be obtained trough the AMBE and compatible with DStar radios, why they would sue me? Is different and i didnt' open the die of the chip to get access to the functions inside (is not even necessary anyway.) and at the same time i didn't steal the source code, because is not public. Best guy to ask is Bruce Perens I'd like to see this patent analysis he has.

I've read that document, and others. By the way, what's the best 'channel' to contact Bruce? The google digital voice group is a good public channel: Else email: bruceatperensdotcom.
